Mindfulness Empowers Us

Our trained staff, tailored curriculum, and online resources help children and adults manage stress, overcome obstacles, cultivate compassion and thrive through adversity – outcomes that benefit both the individual and society as a whole.

We believe that growth and learning take place when people of all ages are connected, confident and focused.

We believe that mindfulness empowers us to handle adversity, manage emotions, and resolve conflicts in a proactive and deliberate way.

We believe that resilience is essential for thriving in school, career, and community.

Since 2012, ResilientKids has worked with more than 10,000 Rhode Island students at over 50 different schools across the state. Our results speak for themselves: dramatic reductions in student and teacher stress; bullying; and behavior-related visits to the principal’s office. See our results here.

Calling upon the best practices from mindfulness and SEL, with methodologies rooted in the latest research, the ResilientKids™ curriculum fuses a multi-disciplinary approach into a year- long curriculum, designed to help students and their teachers build self-awareness, executive functioning skills, balance, focus, and empathy from the inside out. Differentiated approaches to mindfulness-based practices ensure that each student has a way to return to center – a safe, happy, and confident place from which they can reset and start again.

Additionally, as we integrate these practices into the school curriculum and culture, together we are developing a community of resilient kids who are learning how to pay attention, noticing what’s happening in their bodies, and skillfully responding (rather than reacting) to various stimuli throughout their day.

Outstanding Results

We have tracked the program’s results, and are proud to report the following qualitative and quantitative results:

  • 30 – 50% reduction in behavior referrals, which means students are in their seats learning and not in the principal’s office
  • 82% reduction in school violence
  • 88% of teachers report seeing improvement in students’ self-regulation
  • 76% of teachers report seeing increased student awareness
  • 55% of students practice what they’ve learned in school & at home
  • 44% of students practice taking a breath to help them regulate their emotions
  • 26% of teens chose not to give up when things get difficult
  • 23% drop in stress in middle and high school students
  • Teachers report that their students are more attentive, self-regulating and learning-ready
  • A majority of teachers also report incorporating the strategies for themselves to better manage stress and work-life balance

ResilientKids™ Curriculum is centered around CASEL’s (The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning) five Core SEL Competencies as well as Common Core Anchor Standards. Our curriculum is designed to work with PreK—12, yet the practices look different depending on the age range of your students.

Have You Heard…

What Students are Saying

“I learned not to let stress get in my way.”
“I learned to believe in myself and to never give up.”
“During the [state testing], I used my strategies to help me refocus.”

What Students are Saying

When my mom gets mad at me, I take 5 breaths to calm down, which makes me less
frustrated.

What Students are Saying

My friend was in a fight with another friend so I taught her the breathing techniques and now she uses that to calm herself down.

What Teachers are Saying

We saw students less frustrated with difficult tasks, and using their de-escalation techniques.

What Teachers are Saying

This was by far one of the best experiences I have had as a classroom teacher. It has taught me the importance of being aware of myself, and helped me share this with students on a daily basis.
